Find the right Toyota order picker for your warehouse picking

In today’s fast-paced warehouse environments, order picking forklifts play a crucial role in streamlining daily operations. These versatile machines lift the operator with the load, allowing for quick and safe access to items stored across your storage area. They are typically found in e-commerce fulfilment centres, retail distribution hubs, manufacturing sites and spare parts warehousing.   To choose the right model for your order picking, several key factors must be considered to ensure it meets your operational needs. This guide should give you a good start.

Step 1

Understand your warehouse and picking needs

To find a match, know your operational needs:

      • Aisle width: Evaluate the warehouse layout by measuring aisle widths and ceiling heights. Narrow aisles require compact models with a small turning radius, while wider aisles allow for larger machines.
      • Required picking height: Determine the highest shelf you need to reach.
      • Load capacity: Consider the typical size and weight of the items you will be picking to ensure the truck's capacity is sufficient for safe operations.

Truck recommendations based on picking height

For each picking height we offer a range of models. Depending on your required load capacity and/or other features, you can click through to the model suitable for your application.

All Toyota low-level order pickers

Low level order pickers provide efficient access to ground and second levels (up to 2.8 metres), making them ideal for fast-moving goods and high-throughput retail operations.

All Toyota medium-level order pickers

Medium level order pickers provide a balance of reach and speed, typically accessing picking heights up to 6 to 7 metres.
These models are suitable for warehouse settings with moderately high racks.

All Toyota high level order pickers

High level order pickers are designed for vertical storage, these can reach up to 12 metreres.
These models are essential for large-scale warehouses with tall racks and offer rail or wire guidance for safe operations in narrow aisles

Step 2

Think about your operators and the workplace safety

The operators of order picking trucks need to navigate in aisles with high shelves at high speed and with precision. The right training and equipment not only boosts efficiency but also help create a safer, more organised warehouse environment. Features and equipment to assist operators can be categorised as follows:

      • Frequency of use: Choose a model with options that fit your expected usage. Frequent, intensive use may justify a model with features that maximise productivity and provide optimal ergonomics.
      • Prioritise safety: Look for built-in safety systems to minimise accidents.
      • Ergonomics for the operator: Go for features that enhance operator comfort and prevent injury.

Feature recommendations

We listed a range of standard features and options, available on our order pickers, that may help your operators to improve your picking operation. They are divided in three categories: safety, frequency of use and ergonomics. Find examples of each below.

frequency of use

Remote controlled order picking improves picking performance. This conceptshortens the time a picking cycle takes, which in turnincreases the picking productivity of operatorsand creates a smoother picking flow.

frequency of use

Platform lifton low level order pickers allow elevating the operator about 1.2 m above the floor for picking at first and second level.

frequency of use

With the walkie buttons you can move the low level order pickers forward whilst walking next to the truck, improving productivity.

frequency of use

With a scissor lift model, the forks can be lifted to a comfortable working position (max lift height 800 mm) for more ergonomic working.

Safety

Medium to high level order picking trucks operate close to racking. Toyota’s order pickers can be free ranging or work with rail or wire guidance systems to travel safely in the aisles and avoid damages.

Safety

The Toyota low level order pickers optionally come with daytime running lights to increase visibility in the workplace. Optional blue or red spotlights improve safety even further.

Safety

The order picker automatically brakes when stepping off the platform and the parking brake engages when the truck is standing still.

Safety

Toyota Optio comes with speed reduction when cornering to reduce the risk of accidents and maintain stability whilst driving.

Ergonomics

A large, comfortable operator space with intuitive controls and low vibration supports the pickers during their daily operations.

Ergonomics

During long shifts, the operator can comfortably lean against the standard soft knee pads.

Ergonomics

All Toyota Optio order pickers have a low step-in height for easily stepping on and off when picking.

Ergonomics

User-friendly and intuitive controls with height-adjustable mechanism.

Step 3

Consider power source and work environment

Specific environments may need specific solutions:

      • Power source: Choose a power source that corresponds to your operational demands. Lithium-ion batteries, for example, are highly suitable for intensive use because they charge faster and allow for opportunity charging.

      • Work environment: For specific operations or certain types of environment, the trucks may need to be adapted. Talk to your local expert to learn more.

Environment recommendations

Multishift operations

Order pickers are often used in2 to 3-shift operations. Lithium-ion battery technology is highly suitable as it allows foropportunity charging. This eliminates the need to change batteries during the day, maximising overall productivity rates.

Most of the Toyota Optio order pickers come with:

  • Traditional lead acid batteries and easy battery exchange
  • Lithium-ion technology for fast charging, opportunity charging and high energy efficiency

Chilled or frozen areas

Toyota's order pickers can be fully engineered for cold store use. For applications with temperatures down to -30°C, order picker trucks require cold store oil and heated batteries when using Lithium-ion. In all other respects they are pre-engineered for cold stores with fully sealed components.
