EcoVadis assessments, a core part of our sustainability strategy

We have been rated by EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, since 2012. EcoVadis helps companies manage value chain risk, compliance and performance, and with responding to due diligence rules – regulations ensuring that companies identify and address adverse human rights and environmental impacts of their actions. We are among the top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis. Obtaining a Platinum rating for a sixth consecutive year is evidence-based recognition proving that Toyota Material Handling Europe continues to progress in its long-term sustainability goals.

Our ratings across Europe

EcoVadis' assessment is a crucial part of our sustainability strategy and we are committed to drive ESG compliance and best practices across our own operations. This is why we complete the EcoVadis survey once a year at head office level, and we ask every factory and Marketing & Sales Company to do the same.

General score

Our EcoVadis targets also continue to progress: 3 out 4 factories have reached EcoVadis Gold level. Our Marketing & Sales Companies and warehouses continue to work towards this goal.
As for our independent distributors, we have a target that six of them work to achieve EcoVadis Bronze level by 2028.

Carbon and environmental management score

Alongside their ESG scores, business sustainability ratings provider EcoVadis has a carbon management score to help companies assess their carbon performance. Up from 21% last year, 58% of our factories and entities have received a ‘Leader’ or ‘Advanced’ score.

With carbon management relatively new, we see a wide score distribution across our network. We are confident that over a few years the map will look very much like our environmental management score map. On this wider topic – of which carbon is a subset – we have been consistently driving progress since 2015, resulting in high scores across our network.

Assessing our suppliers

Our Responsible Procurement Initiative aims to manage social and environmental performance of our suppliers. Next to signing our code of conduct for suppliers and completing a self-assessment, many suppliers have also been onboarded onto the EcoVadis platform. Over 1000 of our suppliers already use EcoVadis to assess their ESG performance, which helps us to increase transparency and make incremental improvements.Furthermore, over 145 suppliers committed to science-based targets in line with SBTi by 2025.

Risk mapping

To help meet future compliance requirements and help prioritise actions, we need an evidence-based approach to company risk assessment and transparency on supplier-specific validated data. For this purpose, we have integrated an additional supply chain management tool from EcoVadis to conduct sustainability risk mapping of our supply base for ethical, social and environmental risks. This will enable us to furthermature our sustainability management and developrisk mitigation measures.

In 2025, we committed to 45 ESG targets to complete by 2031. So far, seven of those have been completed and progress has been made on 15 more.
